Volunteering at the Library

The Volunteer Program at Kingston Frontenac Public Library creates opportunities for individuals to voluntarily extend their services to support the library without receiving any remuneration.

Volunteers supplement the work of paid staff by participating in the Teen Advisory Groups, Teen Review Board, New Adult Advisory Board, and driving for our shut-in service.

Availability of Volunteer Opportunities

When there is a need to welcome more volunteers at our branches we will advertise on our website for the volunteer opportunity and at that time will accept applications for the opportunity.

Eligibility

If you are 14 or older and willing to make a commitment of at least 3 months then you would be eligible to apply.

Requirements

We ask volunteers to have a library card or a family library card in the case of our teen volunteers. We also require our volunteers to provide an up to date Criminal Record Check (for the Vulnerable sector) if they are 18 or older. The cost of the CRC will be refunded by the library. The Teen Review Board does not require a CRC.

Current Opportunities

Teen Review Board (TRB)

We are currently recruiting volunteers for the Teen Review Board from across Kingston and the Townships of Frontenac.

TRB members write reviews of KFPL books, movies, video games and music from home. There are no meetings, and no scheduled hours.

Teen Advisory Group (TAG)

TAG members receive volunteer hours for attending monthly meetings, helping to develop library programs for other teens, and for participating in other TAG and KFPL projects.

Activities for the groups will begin in September 2023 at the Pittsburgh and Isabel Turner branches. Teens who will be in Grades 9 to 12 this fall are eligible to apply.

For more information, please email our TAG coordinators at teen-advisory-group@kfpl.ca.

Kingston Youth Climate Council (KYCC)

Climate change is one of the most pressing global issues of our time, and climate justice the necessary path for a livable future. Are you looking for a way to explore this issue and earn volunteer hours? Join KFPL as a teen volunteer for the Kingston Youth Climate Council.

As a member of the KYCC, you will help design, execute, and lead a process of climate education, connection, empowerment, and action that will engage youth in Kingston.

To apply and learn more, please review the call for volunteers. Applications are due by September 16, 2023.
